AFTERCARE
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE PROPER CARE OF YOUR NEW TATTOO WHILE IT HEALS. YOUR ARTIST IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ISSUES RESULTING FROM POOR AFTERCARE. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES.
KEEP IT COVERED
Keep bandage on for minimum of 1 hour. If DermShield (tegaderm) is used, keep bandage on for 3-4 days.
REMOVING BANDAGE
We recommend that you remove the DermShield in the shower, allowing the water to rinse over the tattoo and bandage, while pulling the bandage down.
WASHING YOUR NEW TATTOO
Using lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap such as Dial, gently wash the area using nothing other than your hand. Your tattoo may feel slimy - do not worry, this is called plasma and is a normal part of healing. Gently remove this “plasma” and gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Follow this with a light application of unscented lotion such as Eucerin. Follow these steps for the next two weeks.
**Absolutely no neosporin
BATHING AND SWIMMING
You can shower with a new tattoo. It is ok to get the tattoo wet, but do not soak your new tattoo. Submerging your tattoo in water can cause damage or infection. Avoid baths, hot tubs, pools, and the beach for minimum of two to three weeks.
SCABBING AND PEELING
After a few days, you may notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing - do not worry, this is normal.
**Do not apply ointment and/or lotion to scabs.
***DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH YOUR TATTOO! If it itches, slap it. If it's peeling, apply lotion on it. If it’s scabbing, leave it alone.
SUN
Always protect your skin from the sun. UV rays and tanning can damage your skin which can cause your tattoo to fade. Use at lease SPF 30 when spending time outdoors and keep your new tattoo out of direct sunlight for a minimum of two weeks.
